Initially opened as a bar in 1975, this restaurant now covers 38,000 square feet with various food options suitable for patrons of all ages. Stan Clark and Steve File began Eskimo Joe's in 1975 when they stumbled upon an empty building south of Oklahoma State University that they thought would make a great bar. Stillwater Museum of History

The Stillwater Museum of History, situated on the lower level of Sheerar Cultural and Heritage Center, is dedicated to collecting, preserving and interpreting the history of Stillwater Oklahoma. It's open to visitors with long-term exhibits as well as traveling or changing displays covering topics ranging from 1889's first land run that opened Oklahoma Territory for settlement to today.

In addition to permanent exhibits, the Museum also hosts a range of events and programs for the community. These include educational workshops, lectures, and presentations. Furthermore, an annual fundraiser helps raise funds that support both ongoing operations at the museum as well as its educational programming. This year's special exhibit at the Museum is "Something Old, Something New: 100 Years of Wedding Dresses," featuring dresses from 18 different Stillwater families including a bride who was wheelbarrow-pushed around town on her special day and a groom who served in Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1945. These stunning pieces will be on view now through August.

Another special exhibit, "Stillwater Settlers," will tell the stories of pioneer families from Payne County and southwest Oklahoma. It includes both historical and contemporary photography as well as artifacts and books related to pioneer life. The Museum also houses a collection of textiles from the area that is showcased in its quilt study room. Many pieces were donated by Stillwater residents. A special project of the Public History program at Oklahoma State University is to protect Washington School, one of a few schools that opened its doors to students of color during segregation. Through collaboration with the museum, Stillwater Public Library and Civil Engineering program at OSU, Public History graduate students are conducting research on this building and will create a mobile exhibit in fall 2021. The museum is an excellent resource for learning about Stillwater and Payne County history. The staff are highly knowledgeable and will answer any queries you have about its past. Furthermore, they are incredibly friendly and accommodating.
